The Firefly Luciferase (F-Luc) mRNA encodes the enzyme responsible for the bioluminescence seen in fireflies and click beetles. Upon delivery into cells or animals, it is translated into F-Luc protein, which emits light in the presence of its substrate, Luciferin.
