isotope dilution assay

A method to determine the amount of a substance in a mixture by addition to it of a known amount of the same material, isotopically labelled and of known specific radioactivity. The material is subsequently isolated in pure form and its new specific radioactivity is determined. From the degree of dilution and the amount of labelled material added, one may calculate the original concentration.
